Welcome to the 2014 Open Innovations Forum!

In its first three years, Open Innovations has established itself as a leading forum for representatives of the scientific and expert community, business and government to discuss global trends in economic development and share their experience working on ground-breaking ideas and business ventures.

The challenge for Russia today is to become an economy and a country driven by innovation. We are committed to taking new approaches in all spheres and working to modernise Russian industry and agriculture in order to attract private investment and promote greater international cooperation. Last year’s forum welcomed France and Finland as partner countries. This year, Open Innovations is being held in partnership with the People’s Republic of China, and I hope this meeting of our academic and business communities will serve to deepen cooperation between our countries.

I am sure that this year’s forum will be marked by the same interesting discussions, networking opportunities and business success as years past. Welcome, friends.

Greetings to the distinguished organizers and participants of the III Moscow International Forum for Innovative Development “Open Innovations!”

In accordance with the agreement struck between myself and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, China—as partner country—will join Russia in hosting the III Moscow International Forum for Innovative Development “Open Innovations”. On behalf of the Chinese Government and on a personal note, please permit me to take this opportunity to extend my sincerest greetings to all Forum organizers and participants!

Throughout the modern world, the process of economic globalization continues to deepen. At the same time, the thrust of the next wave of scientific-and-technological revolution and industrial change in becoming increasingly clear. The results of “creative disruption” are emerging on a continuous basis. Scientific-and-technological innovation, financial capital and business models have become increasingly intertwined. Never before has scientific-and-technological progress had such a profound impact on economic development, social progress and public prosperity.

The Chinese and Russian economies, already at the critical threshold of transformation and modernization, are in need of further research-and-development innovation and structural modernization, as well as scientific breakthroughs and inclusive advancements. China places tremendous emphasis on the continued fostering of cooperation with its Russian partners in the high-tech sphere. By joining forces, for instance, we will be in a position to pursue cooperative research and development and the joint integration of scientific advancements into production, thereby boosting the science-and-technology potential of our two countries and their international competitiveness while encouraging global scientific-and-technological progress for the benefit of all the peoples of the world.

As the official partner country of the III Moscow International Forum for Innovative Development “Open Innovations”, China, aside from participating in the main program of the Forum, will also be organizing within its framework a series of special events, including the “Partner Country Forum” and the “Partner Country Science-and-Technology Exhibition”, featuring a showcase of the latest achievements of Chinese science and technology, as well as a discussion of innovation policy in the field of research and development aimed at strengthening innovation cooperation between our two states.

Scientific and technological advancement is never-ending, while the potential for its practical application holds limitless promise. I look forward to and wish the upcoming third Moscow forum much robust success!
